In July 2023, APC planned and hosted a very successful mixed team tournament. The standard of Pickleball was quite high with teams entering from other clubs such as Blaenau Gwent and Torfaen in Wales, together with Sherborne in Somerset. This time, we would like to encourage more local participation and with that in mind intend to only allow entries below a standard of 3.5. Players who enter regular tournaments at the 3.5 level would therefore be ineligible to enter this one. It is an inexact science but I’m sure that you all get the idea!
There will be a minimum of two men plus two ladies per team, however an extra player, (or even two) will be allowed in order to share the load.
There will be a maximum of eight teams competing. Hopefully, given the eligibility criteria, we will be able to get several team entries from our own club. If necessary, we can invite entries from other clubs should the need arise.
There will be two groups of four teams in the morning competing in a round robin format. Each ‘match’ will consist of two gendered doubles games (a Men’s doubles and a Ladies’ doubles) followed by two Mixed doubles games. The format will be repeated in the afternoon with two groups of four teams. Qualification for the afternoon groups will be based on the results of the morning matches. Small prizes will be awarded to the top performing teams.
Assuming there are four players per team, each player will expect to play six games in the morning, and six games in the afternoon. Exact details of game format and duration will be provided on the day.
